This volume contains two novels about G.A. Potemkin (1739-1791), an important statesman and a military leader in the court of Catherine the Great (1729-1796). In 1762 he participated in the coup that brought Catherine to the throne. After her ascension Potemkin became her main aide and a favorite. He contributed to opening up the Black Sea’s Northern coast and led the creation of the Black Sea navy. In 1787 he led the Russian army in its war against Turkey. Both books are by 19th century historical novelists. Commentaries, major dates in Potemkin’s life.
