This volume contains two novels about G.A. Potemkin (1739-1791), an important statesman and a military leader in the court of Catherine the Great (1729-1796). In 1762 he participated in the coup that brought Catherine to the throne. After her ascension Potemkin became her main aide and a favorite. He contributed to opening up the Black Sea’s Northern coast and led the creation of the Black Sea navy. In 1787 he led the Russian army in its war against Turkey.
