Georgii Shakhnazarov (d. 2001), a scholar of jurisprudence by education, spent about 30 years in Russian corridors of power: he worked for Brezhnev, Andropov, and Gorbachev, and was involved in many political decisions. He was never a dissident in the proper sense, but neither he was an ordinary "apparatchik". This book is his first and last memoir about what was happening in the Kremlin and in Russian political life before, during and after Perestroika.
