One of the leaders of this movement was Aleksandr N. Engel`gardt (1832-1893), a Russian agronomist, journalist, member of the group Zemlia i Volia (Land and Freedom), and professor of St. Petersburg University. This book was the doctoral thesis of Irina Gordeeva (b. 1975).
