[ Life by faith : Tikhvin Karelians - Old Believers]
Moscow: Indrik, 2003 407 p. [24 ill.] Hardcover. 14 x 21.5 cm ISBN: 5857592127 Language: RussianThis monograph deals with the non-Russian Old Belief using as an example a little known group of the Finno-Ugric people who inhabit the north-western region of Russia who are called the Tikhvin Karelians. They migrated in the seventeenth century to the lands near the Tikhvin cloister. The Karelians have been known as adherents of the Feodosii persuasion of the Old Belief since the eighteenth century. The book places its main attention on studying their ethno-local-confessional identity, the peculiarity of their group self-consciousness, their ethnic-psychological, religious and moral experience and poly-lingualism. The research is based on the materials of the author`s field work in 1980-1990s, the comparative historical analysis of historical folklore and linguistic materials.
