Baron Modest Andreevich Korf (1800-1876) was a classmate of Pushkin in the Lyceum, worked for the brilliant reformer M.M. Speranskii (1772-1839) and was a high ranking statesman all his life. In his memoir he remembers his time, his circle, Nicholas the First and his high officials and much more. This is the first publication of this memoir as a book.
