The author focuses on the semantics of state-Church ceremonies in Orthodox churches, combining features of Church and court rituals in one, in particular on the way they used singing and bell chimes. Most of space is taken by the chapter on the history of singing in city churches, archbishops` houses, and in monasteries, as well as in the imperial domestic chapels.
