The specifics of a diary that it is not created but is kept. The author analyzes the functions, typology, method, and style of literary diaries. Along with very famous writers like V. Zhukovskii, A. Pushkin, and L. Tolstoi, Egorov includes in his analysis the diaries of less known writers of the nineteenth century, like M. Pogodin, A Suvorin, etc. Special attention is paid to diaries of people from the circle of Leo Tolstoi: S. Tolstaia, T. Sukhotina, D. Makovitskii, V. Bulgakov. Oleg Grigor`ev (b. 1957) is the author of many works in philology and history of culture and of a monograph about Ivan Turgenev.
