Georgii Sviridov (1915-1998) is not yet fully appreciated in his motherland. Sviridov kept his diaries in the period 1972-1994. Fragments of these notes were published in periodicals, but the complete collection of them is published here for the first time. In his notes the composer shows himself as a serious analyst of cultural and social life. He also left his thoughts about folk music, classical operas, the spiritual traditions of the Russian people, other composers and their music, and current trends in music.
