As a spontaneous trend in world history, globalization is manifest in growing economic and political interdependence of world countries and regions. In considering the relationship between globalization and a contrary regionalization trend, the author distinguishes between "closed" and "open" regionalism. It is vitally important for Russia be fully involved in both of these new opportunities. Further he discusses what kind of strategy Russia should choose to adjust to the legal and economic environment and integration demands of two blocks, the European Union and the East Asian Cooperation Area. According to the author, Russia can and should play its historic role of economic, political, and civilizational bridge between Europe and Asia.
