"Komu na Rusi Zhit` Khorosho" is one of the best known poetical works of Nikolai Nekrasov (1821-1877), and describes his program. 1861-1863 were the period of numerous peasant uprisings. But this poem is not only about peasants` complaints bur rather about the Russian dreams of happiness. Nekrasov`s poetry has always caused considerable debate among literary critics. According to Iu. Tynianov, “since this enigmatic man traversed Russian literature with his halting, often uncertain steps, his gaze glowing and his head bowed low, no cozy corner has been discovered for him, and while certain people call him a major poet, others rejoin with the word ‘genius’, and still others with the word ‘nobody’.” This monograph includes critical analysis of the poem and is addressed to teachers and students in Russian literature.
