The Shor, a small aboriginal minority in southern Siberia, belong by language to the Khakass subgroup of the Uigur-Oguz group of the Turkic language. This people has a rich folklore in all major genres. This monograph studies the principles of the graphic reproduction of oral texts and of their translation into Russian by the well known folklore specialists N.P. Dyrenkova and A.I. Chudoiakov for the seventeenth volume of the series Folklore Monuments of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East (1998). The author also analyzes genre and linguistic peculiarities of the Shor epic tales.
