Lotman, analyzes in her very innovative book the close connection between Pushkin’s work and behavior and French literature of 18th -beginning of 19th century. The 1st part of the book “Playing Pushkin” discusses the sources of Pushkin’s psychological development, the ties with French literary models revealed in his biography and work, their role in the elaboration of his own creative method and of his style of life. The 2nd includes essays about the similarities and differences in the life and work of two great writers, Stendhal and Pushkin. As noted in the preface by Iu. M.
