Valianskii, S.I., Kaliuzhnyi, D.V T`ma Gor`kikh Istin ... Rus
[ A Swarm of bitter truths... Rus]
Moscow: KRAFT+LEAN, 1998 313 p pbk ISBN: 5859290500 Language: RussianThe last of four in the "Khronotop" series, written by a mathematician and an economist, attacks many established beliefs of historiography and questions what came to be considered as indisputable facts. The authors attempt to prove that, contrary to the common notion, ancient civilization moved from West to East. They find fault with the theory about the Eastern origin of the "Golden horde," which ruled Russia from 1243 to 1480, and find a Latin rather than Byzantine legacy in Russian Orthodoxy. They compare medieval Russia to America of a later day, finding both countries attractive as lands of promise for people of more crowded territories. The book abounds with curious ideas. Contains bibliography shared by book three of the series ("The Phenomenon of Rus").
