German settlement in Siberia is closely connected with peasant colonization of this territory at the end of the 19th - early 20th centuries. About 300 German settlements were founded in Western Siberia just in the Akmolinsk and Tomsk Gubernias. This is the materials of the fourth conference on the history and culture of Germans in Siberia. The first conference was in 1997 (also available). The following topics were discussed: the history of the German population in Russia and neighboring countries; re-emigration of Germans-colonists from the USSR; German enterprise in the agrarian sector; ethnic and ethno-religious history of Russian Germans; the national issue at present; international contacts of Russian Germans and their organizations; media and education in the German language, etc. Bibliographic references.
