This book is an inquiry into the various forms of visual experience. Part one deals, in particular, with battle-painting by way of disrupting its generic continuity. What is traced instead is so-called perceptual violence. Part two studies established art forms, or what may be termed "classical art": Paul Cezanne, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova, etc.) Part three examines the works of Russian contemporary painters and photographers, concentrating primarily on the inner logic of the chosen medium or artistic device.
