D. Miliutin (1816-1912) was a military historian and military minister during the reign of Alexander the Second, the leader of the great reforms of 1860-1870s. Volume four of his memoir covers the period of the Polish rebellion of 1863-1864. In addition to this topic Miliutin also writes about restoring the Seym in Finland, the end of Caucasian war in Russia, the situation on the Asian outskirts of the Russian empire, the great reforms of the 1860s, and the life of both Russian capitals.
