This book contains chronicles and articles by antique and modern scholars about two leaders of the national liberation movement of the early 17th century, K. Minin (died 1616) and Prince D. Pozharskii (1578-1642). These two citizens of Nizhnii Novgorod brought about the expulsion of Polish conquerors from Moscow, ended the strife against Sweden in the North, helped to suppress a protracted inner tumult, and indirectly contributed to the establishment of the new Romanov dynasty (1613). The larger part of the book is a literary account of the period. This is followed by the writings of eye-witnesses, and articles by the historians N. Kostomarov and I. Zabelin. Contains biographical information about the authors.
