Aleksandr Kornilovich (1800-1834), an officer, historian, and writer, was sentenced to exile for his participation in the Decembrist rebellion of 1825, and later spent almost five years in the Alekseevskii Ravelin. He wrote 37 papers on domestic and foreign policy, economy, history, literature, education and religion, demonstrating his deep knowledge of Russian history and talent as a writer. Also included in this volume are his answers to interrogation about his participation in a secret society and its connections with the Austrian government, his letters of 1826-1834, and his novel Andrei Bezymennyi written in prison.
