M.B. Turovskii (1922-1994) was a well-known philosopher who in many ways influenced the development of independent Russian thought of the 1970s-1980s. Unlike German philosophers of the Hegelian school, he built his dialectical logic on the concept of the heterogeneity of Being and regarded the person as an organizing factor of the cultural system. According to Turovskii, historical progress manifests itself in the evolution of the notion of freedom. Philosophy resolves the conflict between excessive creativity of an individual and the pressure of alienated society, the latter itself a result of the individual`s creative activity. The task of philosophy is to restore the unity of purpose lost in the course of the historical segmentation of labor. Bibliography, name index.
