For the first time in Russian philology Gogol`s esthetics are analyzed, based not on his own statements and thoughts on the subject, but by investigating his works. V. Mil`don analyzes the construction of Gogol`s images and his attitude toward time. The analysis allowed to author to formulate one of the reasons for Gogol`s death. Valerii Mil`don is a professor in the literature department in the All-Russian State Institute of Cinema. He is an author of many books, including "Chekhov Today and Yesterday" (011384).
