This book is a collection of essays about two epochs in the history of institutions of justice in Russia. The first epoch started in the reign of Alexander the Second with the adoption of judicial reform and the creation of a new court statute. This reform laid the ground for adversarial proceedings in the court ("mirovoi sud" or "mirovoi sud`ia"). The second epoch started after the revolution of 1917. The Bolshevik government created new justice in the face of revolutionary tribunals and changed the court statute. Mikhail Vostryshev, a writer and historian, wrote this book for a wide audience. It includes many interesting stories from Russian courts.
