The book consists of three works: "Skomorokhs in Rus", "Gusli, the Russian musical instrument", and "the Domra and related musical instruments of the Russian people". Skomorokhs were wandering ministrel-cum-clowns in medieval Russia. A.S Faminitsyn was a professor in history of music and aesthetics at the St. Petersburg Conservatory from 1865-1872. The book also includes texts and scores for many of the skomorokhs` songs and performances.
