This book published more then one hundred years ago (1896) is still the most authoritative biography of the Russian poet Konstantin Batiuskov (1787-1855). Leonid Maikov was a specialist in Old Russian literature and the literature of the 18th-19th century. Maikov`s book is supplemented with several articles about Batiushkov by contemporary Russian philologists V. Koshelev, A. Proskurin, A. Zorin, N, Zubkov, and the German psychiatrist Anthon Dietrich who treated Batiushkov in 1829.
