The author analyzes the ethnodemographic history of the USSR based on the data of four censuses: 1959, 1970, 1979, and 1989. According to the author, each of these censuses due to methodological flaws undercounted the number of nationalities and their population in the country, but still allowed the study of ethnodemographic processes. This monograph identifies the main trends and factors responsible for changes in ethnic and demographic structure in the republics of the USSR, as well as the structural and quantitative demographic shifts in 1960-1980s in various republics.
