[ Yakutian Complex Expedition of 1925-1930 : Developing scientific institutions in Yakutia]
Novosibirsk: Nauka, 2001 165 p pbk. 14 x 21 cm. Printing 636 ISBN: 5020322903 Language: RussianThe idea of creating a network of state academic institutes all over Russia was expressed by academician V.I. Vernadskii before the revolution in 1916. The first step in the realization of this idea was the Yakutian Scientific Expedition, also the first significant project of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, started in 1924, right after the Civil War. This monograph studies the history, structure, programs, and plans of the expedition, and its results. In addition to collecting information about the economic potential and culture of the territory, the expedition laid a basis for the creation of several academic institutions, a higher education system, and centers of research and development in the region.
