This monograph attempts to identify the historical and cultural origins of Nikolai Gogol`s disposition: x-tonic mythology, epics, high and "low" baroque, folk-humor culture. According to the author, Gogol reflected in his works the spiritual break of "the ordinary man" in the 19th century as a result of the cultural and historical break after the epoch of "enlightened absolutism".
