This is an unabridged edition of the memoirs of Filipp Filipppovich Vigel` (1786-1856), who served in several government offices from 1800-1840, including the office of vice-governor of Bessarabia and mayor of the city of Kerch`. He was also known as an expert in literature and theater, and was friendly with many writers beginning with Pushkin and Zhukovskii. These witty and devastating memoirs, a gallery of many of the notable people of his time, made him famous. The book is a reprint of the publication in the periodical Russian Archive (1891-1893) with restoration of all previous cuts. Name index.
