The fourth volume of the series Ethnic and Evolutionary Prehistory of Old Rus is about old ethnoses of Siberia and near the Urals. The author attempts to depart from the traditional concept of Russian history as a history of states and kingdoms in favor of a history of ethnic cultures. His approach to reconstructing the language of Russian predecessors is based on studying toponymics. Combining these results with findings of archeology and ancient literature allowed him to create a chronological picture of old ethnic cultures in sequence and in relation with other ethnicities, as well as to describe the principles the Russian language is based on.
