The well-known Russian biologist A.A. Liubishchev (1890-1972) was also a profound philosopher and theoretician of the culture. His works could not be published in Soviet Russia, and only recently were recovered from his archives. In this work Lubishchev rehabilitates the Platonic heritage in the history of culture and science. He underlines the undoubted merits of Plato and the “Platonic line” in the development of ancient and modern mathematics and astronomy, its role in Renaissance culture, which was a natural result of the Christian and idealistic tradition. The last chapter analyzes the Copernican revolution in its connection with Platonic and Christian thought. Liubishchev’s book is bright monument of Russian idealistic philosophy created by an independent mind in the Soviet totalitarian atheistic society. In the Preface by Iu.A. Shreider is a portrait of Liubishchev as an original Christian thinker. Bibliography.
