The Congress of Vienna in the 19th and 20th centuries’ historiography

This book contains an exhaustive review of the historiography of the Congress of Vienna from the first publications on this crucial political event in post-Napoleonic European history to the period after World War II. A profound knowledge of the international politics in the Restoration era could give us the best understanding of the interdependence of the States’ foreign policy and their social-economic structure. The Author undertakes a detailed analysis of the problems as they were represented in contemporaneous historical journalism immediately after Congress and in the works of most prominent historians from the second half of the 19th century to our time. He gives special consideration to the actual problems in the newest historiography, such as the lessons of the Viennese system in establishing the balance of power in Europe and the overcoming of “historiographical nationalism”.
