He is a pioneer of studies of corruption in Russia. His first work on this subject, Black Market Technology, or the Peasants` Ability to Sustain Hunger, published in the US in 1981 made him famous worldwide. In this book, he studies the nature of corruption based on modern microeconomic theories and vast sociological data. He shows that corruption as a specific para-government coexists with the government by law and constitution. Bibliography.
