This issue of the series Genealogy and Family History of the Don Cossacks deals with four topics touched upon in the novel "Quiet Don": the peaceful life of the Don Cossacks, WWI, the revolution of 1917, and the Civil War. The author compares the reality of Cossack life as he knows it with its reflection in the novel, and concludes that the novel is so far from real Cossack life that it should be considered a bad joke. Also this volume includes genealogical trees of several Cossack ataman families.
