Stoglav is a collection of decisions of the Russian Orthodox Church Council in 1551. After the fall of Constantinopol, Russia became the only Orthodox state. Makarii, the Novgorod archbishop, initiated several All-Russian Church Councils. One of them, called "the Council of Reconciliation" or Stoglavyi Sobor, which embraced Tsar Ivan, Church hierarchs, princes, boyars and military officers, touched many sides of Church, social, economic, and political Russian life. This monograph contain textological analysis of Stoglav, identifies its earliest version, and reconstructs its original structure. This study received the Makarii (Bulgakov) award in the section History of Russian Orthodox Church in 1999.
