This historical monograph focuses on agrarian culture, methods, and structure in Russia in the pre-reform period: from 1765 to 1861. Special attention is paid to the influence of folk traditions, both positive and negative, on the development of specific agricultural industries. Critical analysis of Western Europe`s agricultural experience by Russian agronomists and implementation of the most progressive ideas accelerated the development of peasants` and landowners` households and their professional growth. Many agricultural societies were formed, which helped spread new ideas into the Russian agrarian sector. The book is based on numerous archival and published sources, and is oriented toward a comparative, historical and socio-cultural study of Russian and West European experience. Indices, summary in English.
