This is a new edition of a diary for 1907-1910 of lay brother Nikolai Beliaev who later became the celibate priest Nikon Optinskii (1888-1931), the last starets of the Optina Pustyn` monastery before it was closed in 1927. The censor`s cuts of the previous edition (1994) are all restored. The diary describes everyday life in the monastery and his discussions with elder Barsonophius.
