The military expansion of Mongols in the 13th century affected the history of the peoples of Eurasia. A significant part of Eurasia was under the power of Genghis Khan and his successors, including the state of Khorezm (Khwarezm). The last Khwarezm-Shah, Jalal ad-Din Mingburnu (reigned 1220–31), was defeated by the Mongols in 1231 and his territories were taken over by them.
