Since 1989 Panorama of Russia has specialized in academic and reference publications from the Russian Federation and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
This book describes the last and least studied year of the life of M.Iu. Lermontov (1814-1841) and gives a detailed account of several days preceding the duel. Using previously unknown archive materials, letters, and other documents, the author denies that there was a plot on the poet’s life. The book traces the day-to-day life Lermontov led on the Caucasian Mineral Waters in the summer of 1841 and carefully portrays the people that surrounded him. Supplements include memoirs about the Caucasian exile of the Decembrist V.S. Tolstoi and an article by V.A. Manuilov about the secret of Lermontov’s parentage. Bibliography, name index.
