This is a biography of Leonid Vladimirovich Shebarshin (b. 1935), the head of the First Chief Directorate of the KGB in January 1989, and acting director of the KGB for 3 days in August 2001. Prior to that, Shebarshin had served as Kriuchkov`s deputy from April 1987.
