The “Byzantine chronicles” (Vizantiiskii Vremennik) was founded in 1894 and quickly gained high respect as a leading annual in Byzantine studies. It existed as such until 1927, when the Soviet authorities decided it was not a priority. After a 20 year break, the annual was revived and remains a world class historical resource. The book contains facsimiles of selected articles and essays about Russian classicists, founders, leading authors and editors of the annual: V. Vasil`evskii, F. Uspenskii, A Vasil`ev,, V. Beneshevich, and A. Papadopullo-Keramevs. The second volume (1947-1991) aims to present a wide spectrum of directions in Russian Byzantine studies and contains 70 articles by modern Russian scholars.
