This is the biography of the first Russian woman diplomat, minister and writer Aleksandra Domontovich (Kollontai) (1872-1952). Kollontai was an extraordinary woman in many ways. Born into an old Ukrainian noble family, she joined the Bolshevik movement and worked with many leaders of the Bolshevik revolution and government, first as a commissar of Social Security (Sotsial`noe Obespechenie), then as ambassador to Mexico, Norway, and Sweden. As a minister of social affairs she created her own revolution, changing the institution of family in Russia.
