This book is about history of creation and technical characteristics of military planes of Nikolai Nikolaevich Polikarpov (1892-1944). He was the head of the design laboratory which later became known as the laboratory of Sukhoi. Like many of his colleagues he was arrested in 1929 for counterrevolutionary activities, sentenced to death which two years later was replaced with his assignment to "sharashka", the secrete bureau designing military aircraft.
