This is a biography of Simeon of Polotsk (Samuil Emel`ianovich Petrovskii-Sitnianovich, 1629-1680). He met the Russian Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich in 1656. In 1661 Simeon moved to Moscow and became a translator and teacher of Latin for Russian government officers (pod`iachie).
