This is the first translation of letters of Empress Elizaveta Alekseevna, the wife of Aleksandr I (1779-1826). Her letters were sent by courier, and therefore were not subject to censorship. They were addressed to her mother and show a unique view into the closed world of the royal family and their court. The letters cover the crisis points of Aleksandr`s reign: the deaths of Catherine II and Paul I, the Patriotic war of 1812, the death of her husband.
