A lot of studies compare Putin, his method of ruling, with the Stalin`s one. Unlike them this book shows that the Putin`s regime more and more reminds one of the time of Brezhnev`s stagnation (zastoi). Putin heavily relies on his close circle, Putin`s elite, a kind of collective power body, a Politbiuro. Unlike Brezhnev`s Politbiuro this one is not elected; some of them don`t even hold government office. They all were nominated by Putin himself; they are not independent vassals, but rather his court. The book lists full members of "Politbiuro", candidate members, and even former members. Will this new Politbiuro devour its leaders, as has happened many times with dictators in the past?
