Derd Lukacs (1885-1971), a Hungarian philosopher and writer, spent fifteen years in Russia (1929-1945). He was arrested by the NKVD in 1941 and released after two months. The documents of his interrogation collected in this book show that this case was only one of many repressions against foreign communists. Lucacs`s firm behavior and his refusal to cooperate with punitive organs as well as the interference of Dimitrov saved his life. The book shows the methods used by the NKVD to break people and make them confess to crimes they had not committed. The second part of the book includes materials for Lucacs`s biography about his life in the USSR. Name index.
