This is the second volume of the diary Metropolitan Arsenii (Avksentii Stadnitskii, 1862-1936), professor and rector of the Moscow Theological Academy (1897-1899), later bishop of Pskov, Novgorod and Staraia Russa, deputy of the First Russian Duma. He was one of three candidates for the office of Russian patriarch at the Synod in August 1917. Mitropolitan Arsenii was arrested several times during 1919-1924 and along with others sent into exile.
