Dmitrii Konstantinovich Zelenin (1878-1954) was one of the most important Russian ethnographers and philologists. In this book Zelenin shows that the East Slavs were not the one nation but four various peoples: Belorussians, Ukrainians, North Russians (Rus) and South Russians (Rus). He also shows the similarities and differences in their style of life and beliefs.
