Vladislav Surkov (b. 1964), first an assistant chief of staff in the El`tsin, then in the Putin administration since 1999 and up to recently in the Medvedev administration. His office did not completely define his actual role. For several years Surkov has been a leading ideologue of Putin`s policy and an important moving force behind the changes in the Russian political arena: creating new political parties and organizations, providing them with political guidance and programs, financial and organizational support including free media coverage. His failed project of dismantling Union of Right Forces and creating party "Pravoe Delo" with Mikhail Prokhorov as its leader became his last one. Surkov was not dismissed completely, but was moved to the honorary service of minister of modernization. This book is the story of his rise and fall.
