This book, first published in 1995, became an Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Prize winner in 1998. A well known Russian philologist V.N. Toporov (1928-2005) analyzes the novel "Poor Liza" by Nikolai Karamzin (1766 - 1826) first published in 1792, and the history of its publications and criticism. Also included are two essays: A.
